Orange County Kickboxing offers many venues for competition. We never pressure anyone to compete. Those who want to, however, can train for competion in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Savate, Mixed Martial Arts, or Boxing. Whether you are a beginner with aspirations to compete or a seasoned competitor we can help you to reach your goals.
A good way to get started in competition is to start with light contact Savate competition. After a few months of training, we can have you ready for a Savate match. This a great way to get some ring experience without getting hurt.
The next step is a “smoker” fight in Muay Thai. This is a full contact bout with protective gear including a headgear and shin guards. Smoker fights can be with or without knee strikes. We recommend starting without knees. If you win a handful of times, you can go for a championship belt from one of the local gyms.
After a few smoker fights, you can move on to amateur competition in Muay Thai. Amateur bouts include knees without a headgear or shin guards. These are sanctioned bouts where you will get paid a little bit and can have your picture on a fight poster. Most amateur bouts are three rounds of two minutes. Championship bouts go five rounds.
